Why Organize?
Our home is our sanctuary. Home is where we recharge our batteries and prepare to tackle the world. Having a clutter free and organized home shortens our morning routine so we can get out the door faster and with less stress.
Many people spend ten minutes or more just trying to find their car keys every morning. That is nearly an hour spent every five day work week just trying to find car keys. That is time that can be spent doing other things; preparing for a meeting, working out, getting an extra cup of coffee or just hitting the snooze button.
So many people start their days with turmoil. They can't find the clothes they want to wear, there isn't enough time to pack lunches, the kids can't find their backpacks and nobody is going anywhere if Mom can't find her keys. Every morning people feel like they have been through a war just trying to get out the door.
Morning Madness not only sets you up for a stressful morning but a bad day. There are simple steps that you can take that will end Morning Madness and have the whole family starting the day off right. Create an organized closet to make getting ready fast and easy. Plan meals and lunches and organize your fridge so even the kids can make lunches quickly. Create an organization station near the door where everyone has a place to keep those essentials.

Where Do We Begin?
Where do we begin? If you are suffering from that creeping clutter where to begin is the question that many people have when they want to get organized. Just deciding where to start can be an obstacle to getting started. The first thing you must do is define your space. What do you want your space to be? What works for you in the space and what doesn't work?
The next step is sorting through things and determining what stays and what can go. It's important to remember your vision for your space. If something doesn't serve the space you want, then it needs to find another home. This is where having a professional organizer can help.
Now comes the fun part. Create your space around those things you have decided to keep. Give everything a home and let everything shine. No more tumble down stacks of things, everything accessible and organized. It is possible to cut through the clutter and get organized alone, but if the task still seems overwhelming, then you might need a little help. The organization and design professionals at Just Like Home are here to help you through every step of the process. Contact us today for a free consultation.

Small Space Solutions
Organizing a small space has a special set of challenges. When space is tight rooms tend to do double duty. As challenging as small spaces can be, if you are creative, you can make the space beautiful and functional.
Some of my favorite small space solutions can also be used in a large space. A storage ottoman provides extra seating and a place to store linens, throw blankets, games and even files. Bed risers can be used to increase storage space and allow you to fit under bed totes with seasonal clothing, shoes and other items you don't use every day.
Organization stations aren't just for the entryway. An office/kitchen or guestroom/office is the perfect place to use a book case, armoire or even a china cabinet. With the right accessories these items can do double duty efficiently while hiding clutter.
A dresser or side board makes a great entertainment center with enough room to store games, movies and electronics. And, smaller drawers that are perfect for mp3 players, game controllers, batteries and other small items.

Why Hire a Professional Organizer?
There are few people who don't prefer to live and work in an organized and functional space. We are so much more productive and less stressed when we aren't battling our environment. Simple tasks become a chore when we can't find the things we need to get the job done.
But, wanting to be organized and being organized are two different things. Life get's in the way. Sometimes people plan to get organized. They buy the things they think they need (lots and lots of totes...) but they never get around to sorting through things and end up with a bunch of empty totes, or a bunch of totes filled with random things and they still can't find anything.
Sometimes people start sorting through things and get distracted by what they find and never get around to finishing the job they started. People get distracted by old photo's, a rebate they forgot to mail in, etc. Or they just get bored, lets face it. There are more fun ways to spend our time than sorting through things.
Hiring a Professional Organizer can help break through the barriers to getting organized. Some people simply need a consultation and a few suggestions to get started. Some people need someone to help them get through the organization project from start to finish. A good Professional Organizer will customize their services to suit your needs.
Professional Organizers will help you develop a system that will help keep you organized at work, school, home or office. Contact Just Like Home-Professional Organizers for a free consultation today.

Using Feng-Shui
Feng-Shui is an ancient Chinese philosophy and art that believes you can control the Qi (chee or energy) of a space by the things you have in the space and where you place them in relation to other things. By applying the principles of feng-shui it is believed that you can not only create a space that is peaceful or vibrant but you can also draw to you the things you desire, such as love, health or money.
There is energy all around us. Have you ever walked into a room and felt immediately calm or relaxed, or uncomfortable for no particular reason? That may be the Qi, or energy of the room. For a peaceful atmosphere people who practice feng-shui try to attract Sheng Chi, positive 'upward moving' energy. And, avoid Sha and Shi Chi, negative and depressing energy.
There are simple steps you can take to give your room and home positive energy without being a feng-shui, sheng chi master.
Using feng-shui to create your space is all about energy and flow. The energy outside of us effects the energy within. Whether it's a serene sanctuary or an energetic office you are looking for try a little feng shui.

There are simple steps you can take to give your room and home positive energy without being a feng-shui, sheng chi master.
- Arrange furniture so the doorways are not blocked. If in a living room place furniture in a position that promotes conversation.
- Pay attention to lighting. If the room doesn't receive much natural light then make sure you have options for bright or soft lighting.
- Paint the walls a color that pleases you. Using feng-shui you can choose colors to influence the Qi but if you don't like the color that corresponds with the energy you want to attract, then choose a color that you do love. What's most important is how YOU feel in the space you are creating.
- Get rid of or fix broken things. That chipped mirror or chair with the wobbly leg are examples of things that attract negative energy. It's hard to relax in a wobbly chair and looking at things that are broken just remind us of the things we need to do instead of allowing us to truly relax.
- Add elements that create the feeling you want. If you are always most relaxed on trips to the ocean then have a jar with shells and seaglass you have collected on a table. If you have a green thumb then place some african violets or other plants around the room.

Be a Clutter Buster
Some people have lots and lots of things. They find it hard to throw things out, even if it's broken, or if they haven't used it in a long time. A lot of times they are convinced that they will need it as soon as they throw it out, or the item has sentimental value. No amount of persuasion will convince some people that it's alright to throw out their great aunts toaster cozy, the puzzles that don't have all the pieces and the parachute pants they wore in 1984.
Our job as professional organizers isn't to throw our clients things away, our job is to find a system that allows the client to keep and enjoy the things they treasure. Museums and Libraries are examples of places that have an abundance of things, but they are arranged in an orderly and functional way that allows people to enjoy the collections rather than trip over them.
Even in the most orderly homes there are usually things that can be discarded or donated. Only the homeowner can determine what those things are. One of the first things a professional organizer will do is to begin to sort through things. At first the sort is broad; Keep, Donate, Trash. Then things get sorted again and again. Books, crafts, games, clothing, etc. Piles of clothes become Summer and Winter clothes. Summer and Winter clothes get sorted into shirts, pants, sweaters, etc. You get the idea.
One of the ways a person can begin to bring order is by learning to sort through what they have. We are happy to help organize your space from beginning to end, but for most people that is cost prohibitive. When we approach a space and the client has already gotten rid of the donate and trash items it makes the job go so much faster and that saves the client money. We can focus on a system for what the client really wants to keep.
The best system I have found to start Clutter Busting is to get four clothes baskets, boxes or bags. One is for keep, one is for donate, one is for trash and the last is placed by the door for things that belong other places in the house. I usually start at the door and work my way clockwise through the room, sorting as I go. Once the Trash is full, empty it, once Donate is full then take it out to the car and start another. As the Keep gets full you will need to find a place to keep them until your room is decluttered and you can organize them properly. Sometimes it's things that have been collected over years and years, it takes time to sort through everything. Set a timer or turn on some music, take breaks and just do a little at a time. With persistence the clutter will be banished and then you will be ready to create a functional and organized system that lets you enjoy your treasures and your space.
